Elevation Church
The church can be described as a 21st century church targeting mostly the young and upwardly mobile. Located in the Lekki axis of Lagos with a branch on the mainland, the church digital platform is expected to go all wow.
The Website
The church website, www.elevationng.org has a good User Interface (UI) feel, not too crowded menu, good use of graphics that appeals to the eyes and is mobile enabled. It automatically switches to the mobile version when viewed on a mobile device.
Starting with the ABOUT US menu, It is noted that the mainland church has a different website (http://elevationmainland.org/)? Why is this so? It has almost the same content as the island church, if we can call the other site that, except for the template that is used for the website. Almost the same feel as the other one but a scrolling template on a static background. Can we call this duplication of effort and data?
On clicking the CSR menu you are faced with two thumbnails like pictures with a click to gallery and three-quarter of the page is this white space staring you in the face.
The E200 Bags page links nowhere but back to the main CSR page. Then on clicking the view E200 gallery, it opens to this page with thumbnails pictures that you have to click on to view the enlarged version of the picture.
Only the image gallery is functioning. A click on the video gallery leads nowhere, same with about E200. It is noted that there are two tabs for About E200, this is likely to be a mistake, either there ought to be another menu there or a mistake in duplicating the same tab.
When you click Home on the E200 (http://elevationng.org/e200/index.html), It just leave you on the image gallery page.
There are too many white spaces on the CSR section. The quality of pictures used in this section is very poor. It is better to make use of good high resolution pictures to brighten up the site and minimize the loads of white spaces that is playing around on the pages.
The event calendar does function well which is a plus for people to keep it on their schedule and not miss out on events.
The image gallery is classified into the following groups: Switch Worship Experience, Taste of our Tribes, Night of Increase, NJoy 9.0, Resurrection Praise, Singles outing with PG and Heart of Gold.
The ones with more pictures (njOY9.0 AND THE Resurrection Praise) will look well in a horizontal layout than in a vertical layout. The vertical layout leaves a whole lot of empty spaces on the left hand side while the pictures are now arranged in the three columns on the right. Either reduced the picture and put a Click Here for more at the end which opens to a page with all the pictures or arrange them in a horizontal layout through the page. The UI and feel to the eye is very important.
The Devotional tab of the Media menu has documents which are not downloadable. You have to return to the site every time you want to view the document. This can be a turn off for someone that wants to be able to access the document whenever without connecting to the internet.
The Magazine Archive of the media section is not working. It gives a 404 Error.
The Podcast => Manifest is not functioning; looks like the files uploaded have been removed. The whole podcast section needs to be clean up.
The confessions tab under the Media menu does not have any document uploaded to it. Click on any of the documents and you get an error page.
Social Media Accounts
The church has accounts on four of the social media platforms namely, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
Twitter: The church do have three twitter accounts: @elevationng for the Island church, @TECmainland for the Mainland church in Ikeja and @LifePointeNg for the young-at-heart. I am really trying to understand the need for the three different handles. One can say it is a matter of choice.
The twitter page has more of text and some images that do cut across all the social media platforms of the church. Also noticed is the engagement model on the account. The account tends to engage by responding to tweets and also it retweeted most of the pastor’s tweets. The church handle and the Pastor’s handle are two different brands, the church can announce the Pastor’s chat, retweet a few of the tweets and direct people to follow the handle to learn more and engage with him directly.
Facebook: account is @elevationng. This page has more graphics with postings on the different events and activities that the church is doing as well as pictures of worshippers during services with embedded videos. Overall it is a well maintained and up-to-date page.
Instagram: account is @elevationng with lovely and updated pictures. You will surely stay a bit on this page.
YouTube: account is @ TheElevationTv. It has four playlists (https://www.youtube.com/user/TheElevationTv/playlists) with 15 videos in tote services of the different activities of the church online to quickly find their way on the page.al. But when you click on Videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/TheElevationTv/videos) there are over 300 high resolution videos. My question is why are they not put into playlists? You can have playlists for different months, services, events that are regular; this makes it very easy for anyone that wants to follow up on th
Overall the site and social media platforms do have a score of six out of ten for there is a huge room for improvement. Kudos to the team for a job well done so far.
So for every event that the church holds, the same set of visual elements is passed across to all the social media accounts.
